Transport your water bottle in an old (clean!) sock. It absorbs the condensation.

Stuffing hiking boots with balled-up newspapers helps them dry out if you get caught in the rain. The newspaper draws out the moisture.

Whenever you travel abroad, bring a small jar of peanut butter along to supplement your breakfasts or lunches. It's a great source of protein and energy.

Margarete Bilzer

Rubbing Vaseline on your feet before putting on your hiking socks helps prevent callouses and keeps your feet supple and soft.

Ron Baylis

Rolling the top of your socks down over your shoelaces keeps your laces from accidentally getting caught on rocks and twigs. Could prevent a nasty fall!

Elizabeth Paterson

On extended holidays, carry a fork, knife and spoon in a metal or hard plastic pencil case for those picnic lunches. Just remember to pack them in your suitcase for the airline flights.

Maddalena Molino

Soft nylon cord is great as a clothesline when traveling, but coloured cords can leave stains on your clothing - white is best!

Tom & Heather Briant

Disposable baby wipes are great to keep in your knapsack. You can use them to clean your hands, refresh your face and for other little "emergencies". Just remember not to leave them behind.
