SPAIN
Hiking in Spain brings the traveller in intimate contact with some of the most scenically exciting and unspoiled areas of the country that cannot be reached by motorized transportation... www.okspain.org
Renown architecture, sunshine, flamenco dancing, paella, almond groves, whitewashed villages & more - all yours to experience on our 2-week holiday to Andalucía in southern Spain. Away from the coastal resorts and into the hills, there are endless possibilities for hiking - snowcapped mountains, bottomless gorges where vultures nest, and forests covered in cork oaks. The first week is spent in La Alpujarra, in the shadows of the 10,000ft Sierra Nevada mountain range with home base being the pueblo of Capileira. The HOTEL FINCA LOS LLANOS will provide the comfort while we hike throughout the Trevélez Valley and meander through Arab-influenced towns with their flat roofs, protruding chimney pots and flowery balconies. We shall also visit the historical city of Granada and the magnificent Alhambra Palace, the most impressive Islamic building in Europe. Our home for the second week is the HOTEL MOLINO in Ronda, one of Spain’s oldest and most enchanting towns. Perched on the edge of El Tajo Gorge, the historic old town is alive with museums, shops and restaurants. Our hikes this second week will take in the never-ending views in the Sierra de Grazalema, the limestone-carved landscape of the “Green Gorge” and the fascinating history behind 25,000 year-old cave paintings. We shall dine in local restaurants & enjoy some of the fine foods Spain is famous for. We will also have a day off to explore Ronda, and no trip to Spain would be complete without a special evening to experience the passion that is flamenco.
