SAGUENAY FJORD, QUEBEC
The Saguenay Fjord is an exceptional landscape of sea and mountains. Village after village punctuate its shores, each more picturesque than the last, all with astonishing viewpoints (Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Offical Tourist Guide, 2005/06).
The Saguenay region of Quebec boasts one of the largest fjords in
North America, and nearby is Lac St-Jean measuring nearly 35 km in
diameter. This is the setting for our journey in one of Canada’s
most picturesque locations. Our hotel will be the AUBERGE DES BATTURES,
which overlooks the fjord on the Baie des Ha! Ha! in the charming
little town of La Baie - some 230km north of Quebec City. Our hiking
program includes treks in three of the province’s most renown
national parks – Saguenay, Monts-Valin and Pointe Taillon –
each offering unspoiled natural beauty and captivating scenery. We
shall lunch on “top of the world” at Pic de la Tete de
Chien at 1870ft., marvel at the fabulous views of the Fjord while
hiking in Saguenay Park, visit the famous village of Tadoussac for
a whale-watching excursion on a zodiac and even spend a day biking
in Pointe Taillon along with a beach picnic and swim! We will also
partake in the local Quebecois culture by dining out one night at
a French-Canadian farm and on another night be treated to a traditional
play under the stars in Saguenay Park. Our trip will conclude with
some time to explore Quebec City prior to the flight home.
