"I expected Ireland to be beautiful,
but I didn't expect how varied &
spectacular the scenery would be –
mountains, coasts, forests, lakes, fields &
every shade of green you could imagine!
Only wished it were longer.
Barbara J. (Ireland, 2010)

IRELAND

May you always have work for your hands to do.
May your pockets hold always a coin or two.
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane.
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
~Irish Blessing

Green is life. Abundant in nature, green signifies growth, health, and environment. As the emblematic color of Ireland, green represents the vast green hillside as well as Ireland's patron saint, St. Patrick. From the moment you set foot in this inviting country, you will understand why it is called the “Emerald Isle”. We begin in Killarney in the southwest region, commonly described as “picture postcard beautiful”. We’ll be staying at the modern SCOTTS HOTEL, situated right in the heart of Killarney village. Our goal here is to impress upon you how the region got its deserving reputation. We hike in the legendary Killarney National Park, set on 24,000 acres of forest, lakes and mountains. We will cut right through the famed Gap of Dunloe surrounded by massive glacial rocks, visit the famous Muckross House Manor and travel the Ring of Kerry en route to hikes on the Iveragh & Beara Peninsulas. On your day off, you might choose to pucker up and book a tour to kiss the Blarney Stone! From Killarney, we then travel by private coach to the charming capital of Dublin. Split into two halves by the River Liffey, Dublin is not only a vibrant city, but one that offers history and literary buffs a chance to walk in the footsteps of Edmund Burke, Ernest Shackleton, Oscar Wilde & James Joyce. Of course, you can also easily while away the day enjoying a Guinness (or two!) in one of Dublin’s 1,000+ pubs. True Irish hospitality awaits us at the 4-star PEMBROKE TOWNHOUSE HOTEL, set in the tree-lined neighbourhood of embassy row. Our program in this area includes a couple of excellent hikes, as we walk in and around the fishing village of Howth and in picturesque Glendalough in the Wicklow Mountains. It’ll be the most “craic” you’ll have on a hiking holiday!
