ICELAND
...you may be drawn to its active volcanoes, valley glaciers, Europe's biggest waterfalls, lava fields, geysirs or thermal pools. Either way, there's nowhere in the world quite like it! (Lonely Planet guide to Iceland, 2004).
Welcome to the land of the midnight sun! Iceland is a remarkable mix of snow-capped mountains, volcanic terrain, massive canyons and unique geo-thermal activity. On this trip, we shall encounter them all! You will "enjoy" the wonderful aroma during our trek by the sulphur springs, experience the moon-like surface of the volcanic landscape, be awed by the countless waterfalls (big and small) and marvel at the view from atop Iceland's own "Grand Canyon". Of course, we will never have to worry about running out of daylight as the sun never sets during this time of the year. We have a special excursion planned to the world renowned Blue Lagoon, where we will also enjoy an exclusive dinner overlooking the lagoon itself. In addition, we will go whale watching in the fishing village of Husavik situated just below the Arctic Circle. The first half of our holiday will be based in the capital city of Reykjavik, with its lively restaurants, shops and youthful spirit. The centrally located FOSSHOTEL LIND will be our home and we shall travel to and from our hikes in chartered buses. During the second half, we'll be at the FOSSHOTEL HUSAVIK in the northern part of the country. From there we will experience a variety of different hikes, from the trek to the top of Mt. Sulur to the breathtaking scenery of the Lake Myvatn region. On our non-hiking days, you can visit the famed Geysir and Gullfoss waterfall near Reykjavik and the Husavik Whale Centre when in the north. If you are looking for a once-in-a-lifetime hiking experience, then Iceland is definitely the trip for you!
